Next Board papers will have 50% objective questions

With a view to improve the quality of education and keeping in mind the module followed by the ICSE and CBSE,both the state boards — West Bengal Council of Secondary Education (WBCSE) and West Bengal Council of Higher Secondary Education (WBCHSE) — has decided to change the question pattern with much stress on objective type question from 2014 onwards.

WBCHSE president Muktinath Chatterjee said the state Class XII Board will be overhauled from 2013 as the new syllabus will be put in place. “Even the evaluation system will witness a sea change. It is aimed at providing a level- playing field for students from our board. Once the system is in place,there will be definitely an improvement in the quality of education,” said Chatterjee.

In both the Boards question papers,it has been decided that 50 per cent will be analytical and not descriptive,while the remaining half will be objective type questions. Among the multiple choice questions,20 per cent will be traditional short-type questions and another 30 per cent will be simple multiple choice questions.

Chatterjee added that they had convened a meeting last Friday with the Education Minister Bratya Basu where it was decided to reform the syllabi of both Madhyamik and HS so that students can have better scores.

In HS,it was decided that the marks of science practical examination will be increased from 20 to 30.
